Casalino’s Brunello is a dark, pleasurable wine enhanced by warm richness, mineral notes, toasted almond and sweet black cherry. The general smoothness and fullness of the texture is what sets this wine apart.

Casalino’s 2005 Riserva offers up classic Old World Sangiovese with its deep garnet color and herbaceous aroma to include, perhaps, a tart cherry note in the nose. Flavors include mother earth, tart cherry cobbler, and some black pepper. The last five years have been good to this wine as it has a medium-bodied, smooth, and silky feel in the mouth and a solid finish. This paired superbly with our dinner of chicken with Italian herb marinara and sun dried tomatoes. I don’t think I could have paired it better actually. I think the fact that it was a fuller-bodied Chianti (being a Classico Riserva) lent a more harmonious blending of the wine and the marinara. A young Chianti may have been to light. At any rate, this is a great value at $15, however, Total Wine has it on sale currently for $13. Highly recommended
