The Bongiovanni is a pretty wine showing lots of dark jammy fruit. A few stray violet flavors give it some added complexity but overall a pleasant food wine.

This light Arneis initially showed a fair amount of sulfur, which blew off with time. Underneath, it revealed some summer fruit flavors and vanilla, but also an odd nuance of wintergreen mint.

There’s a palate of apricot and pear and a pleasant smokiness. Lively and pleasant on the front of the palate and it becomes a little too sharp and thin at the finish.

A supple, easy-to-drink Barolo that should please consumers looking for immediate gratification. Dried strawberries, cherries and brown sugar aromas and flavors mingle elegantly, finishing soft. Drink now–2010.

Crisp and sappy in the mouth, with tart cherry fruit and hints of bubble- gum on the nose. Medium-weight and a bit simple, but certainly well made.

This latest vintage from Cascina Bongiovanni delivers a fresh bouquet of airy fruit, red currants, spice, licorice, leather and milk chocolate. Although it’s still young, the wine shows very good integration of oak and will surely improve with time. It’s succulent, powerful and intense in the mouth.

The tannins are full and aggressive. Flavors of Bing cherry, toast and tar lead to a finish that does not have the fruit or complexity to hold up to the tannins, which will outlive everything else.

At first rubber and tar obscure the dried cherry fruit, but given time, things begin to emerge. There’s firmness and grip, and a meaty flavor throughout. Some salt and chocolate appear on the finish, which is linear and tight.
