Medium weight and medium intensity, with aromas of cherry tomato, flowers, leather and bramble. Firm and simple, with dried cherry and a touch of sweet chocolate. Hardly exciting but clean and much better than bland.

Here’s a beautiful Tuscan expression of Cabernet Sauvignon (with tiny percentages of Sangiovese and Merlot) that rolls smoothly over the palate thanks to the wine’s natural richness, purity and overall intensity. Aromas include ripe berry, blue flower and exotic spice, but the wine is especially successful in the mouth thanks to the fullness of its texture.

This is a well-built and elegant Cabernet Sauvignon (with 5% Sangiovese) with thick layers of cherry, forest bramble, caramel, molasses and smoky tobacco-like tones that are deep and penetrating. It scores high in terms of intensity, complexity and ends with fresh, menthol nuances on the finish.

Potent and alive, kind of rubbery and leathery, with a shot of barnyard thrown in for good measure. Shows solid cherry and berry at the core, but that fruit is offset by hard tannins and overt firmness. Not a lush, modern playboy; more of classic with old-world appeal. Needs time in the glass to unravel.

The beauty of this wine is in its elegant, restrained character. There are no loose ends or sharp spikes here. Instead, the 85-15 Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot blend is extremely compact and streamlined with beautiful extraction and pretty notes of chocolate, spice, tobacco and bold cherry. D’Alceo is a drop dead gorgeous wine that oozes intensity, blackness, fruitiness, exotic spice and smoke. In the mouth, this beautifully executed super Tuscan is about as rich, smooth and opulent as they come. You’ll love the lingering notes of mature berry, chocolate and espresso that drive the long, smooth finish.

This wine pushes the oak regime to the max, and the cherry fruit is totally cloaked in menthol, toast and leather aromas. Beneath the veil lie black cherry, licorice and black pepper flavors, and the texture is full and supple. The very dry finish is tannic, in a manner more woody than fruity. It has style and class, but only time will show if the fruit will ever come forward. Cellar for four to six years.

Very dark plum and toasty oak aromas, deep espresso flavors, and a dense chewy texture are the hallmarks of this wine. Displays good structure: moderate acidity and ripe tannins. A bit one-dimensional now, it may show more nuance in a year or two.
