Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Vigneto La Casuccia is a big, meaty wine that when compared to Castello di Ama’s base Chianti Classico offers a bolder, more masculine style. It’s a bit overdone in places although 20% Merlot adds loads of structure and intensity.

. There’s a compact, traditional characteristic here that gives this wine smooth, sophisticated appeal. Aromas include white cherry, dried raspberry, tar, licorice and root beer. Twenty percent Malvasia Nera is added to the blend.

L’Apparita is a divine and delicate expression of Merlot with rich layers of black cherry, blackberry, spice, mocha, cedar, exotic spice and polished stone that are seamlessly woven together. The wine hits the palate with the softness and richness of the world’s best Merlots and leaves a fading impression of fruit and spice that can be counted in many long, delicious minutes. Hold until 2018.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Plummy fruit supported by cocoa and herb notes and a decadent, overripe quality seen in no other 1998s. The ripe, supple mouthfeel provides sweet, if not overly nuanced, fruit. Finishes long, with even tannins and sweet-tart chocolate and licorice flavors. Hold a year; drink through 2006.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Classy and precise. This is a wine that sooths and satisfies, but also is capable of playing at a pretty fast pace. The nose offers crisp red fruit, hints of orange and plenty of dry leather. Snappy and secure on the palate, with structured cherry and raspberry. Proportion could be its middle name.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Gorgeous, elegant, deeply layered and full of nuances, this delivers cherry candy, espresso and toasted notes with a refined herbal edge. Tones of rosemary, sage and thyme are weaved in with a careful touch and appear only in the background as a delicious afterthought. Dusty tannins and a firm consistency mean this wine will age well for years to come.

One of Ama’s single-vineyard bottlings, this meets the requirements to be called Riserva, yet is never labeled as such. Tautly acidic, yet beautifully balanced by ample cherry-raspberry fruit. The finish is huge - long and wonderfully layered.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Toasty, smoky, coffee aromas and dark black cherries on the nose and palate. The structure is impeccable, making it drinkable now and ageable, too. Not overly extracted, but concentrated and so complex it’s impossible to describe all the nuances.

Another single-vineyard Chianti Classico from Ama, La Casuccia includes a small amount of Merlot in the blend, which lends a rounder, plummier character to the finished product. Very concentrated and rich.

Not a wicker-basket Chianti by any stretch, this complex, ageable red has abundant raspberry and cherry fruit, accented by tobacco and spice. Full and round, yet still retains great Sangiovese character.
