Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The style here is light and lean with subtle but distinct aromas of berry fruit, blue flowers, exotic spice and cedar wood. In the mouth, this is a medium-bodied wine with fine, tight texture and noticeable freshness on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Intense in the nose, with sharp leathery notes. Pure and clear cherry fruit forms the basis of what is a splendidly clean palate. The finish is tannic and tight, but it provides excellent support for the wine and indicates that it will age well. This is a leaner, traditional wine. Fanatics of fat, rich fruit bombs may not be impressed. —M.S.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A touch stewy and brambly on the nose, with hints of plum and tree bark. Not overly packed or full, but with sturdy cherry and raspberry fruit. Finishes peppery, with soft oak; also fairly zesty, with live acids.

With 10% Canaiolo, this Sangiovese-based Riserva opens with very pristine fruit and berry aromas followed by delicate shadings of leather and spice. The integration is terrific and so is the freshness of the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is one of the best Chardonnays you will taste from Tuscany in this price range. The wine is luscious and layered with a rich appearance and deep aromas of butter, almond nut, sage, exotic fruit and creamy peach. It’s an “oaky Chard” with an all-Italian personality and charm.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
In homage to Chianti Classico tradition, this Riserva sees Sangiovese with 10% Canaiolo and Colorino for added texture, saturation and intensity. It’s a firm, steady red that would pair beautifully with veal or roast pork.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Elegant and cedary, toasty oak and tart black plums mark the nose and palate of this elegant medium-weight wine. Oak-derived dark chocolate and espresso flavors carry over onto the finish. Has appeal, but in a narrow range.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Il Poggio is a Riserva in the true meaning of the word: it’s intense and generous and you can sense that a sophisticated oak regimen has been implemented to add just the just measure of toast. But the enormous appeal of the wine relies on both acidity and the quality of the fruit.

A saturated golden color sets the tone and hints at the thick richness about to come. This is an opulent, creamy Chardonnay with well-balanced notes of exotic fruit, banana, butter and almond. You are rewarded with depth and dimension and the wine promises to make a perfect match to shellfish with melted butter or any cream-based pasta dish.
