Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is one of those pleasurable Sangiovese wines that seems perfectly engineered for cheesy pasta and hearty lasagna. The acidity and general freshness is perfectly integrated and ready to pair with fatty foods.

Respected producer, great vintage, very good Chianti. Deep ruby in color with a spicy cherry nose, it is medium to full in the mouth with excellent underlying fruit and moderate acidity. Some tannins to resolve on the finish. Patience will be rewarded after 2002.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This Riserva Chianti Classico opens with earthy, gritty aromas of forest floor, wild mushroom and deep, dark berry fruit. It shows a layered, sophisticated side of Sangiovese with lingering spice and cola on the close.

Packaged in a beautiful bottle with string and seal, Il Puro Casanova is 100% Sangiovese with intense aromas of berry fruit, moist earth, leather and tobacco. You’ll enjoy the natural brightness and fullness it offers on the close.

Begins granular, with intense aromas of iodine and leather. Gets its feet underneath it with time, showing plum and black cherry flavors prior to a long, mildly bitter finish. If one word describes the palate, it’s tannic. This is a wine that drills hard, leaving the cheeks exhausted.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Red fruit carries this one, from the raw, leathery nose, through the cherry and red-plum palate, to the racy finish. Along the way are softening nuances of chocolate and cream. Modest tannins keep it from feeling too rough, so it should do well at the dinner table.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A bit bulky and roasted, but that brings with it tobacco, earth and chocolate aromas. Expressive on the palate; the plum and berry fruit is exciting and braced by serious tannins. Those tannins are also a bit drying, so the finish seems tight as nails. Deserves air and time after opening.

Not very clean, with a murky nose of caramel and wet dog. Once things clear a bit, you get jammy fruit, some pepper and a bit of earth.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Here’s a simple Chianti with good density and bright flavors of wild berries and light shadings of exotic spice. The wine is tart and slightly sour with more berry fruit on the fresh close.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Made with Chianti Classico tradition in mind, this compelling Riserva has measured tones of blueberry, cherry, almond paste and root beer. It exhibits medium-intensity notes of fresh forest fruit on the close. It’s simple but extremely genuine overall.
