Fiery raspberry aromas are touched up with mint and coconut, and the palate on this Monastrell-Cencibel (Tempranillo) blend is a little hot and abrasive but tasty. Solid cherry, berry, pepper and vanilla flavors on the palate and finish.

This Cencibel/Monastrell blend is loaded with black fruit from the bouquet onto the palate. Round flavors of plum and raspberry are balanced and forward, while the finish is full and mouthfilling. A correct, tasty wine that would be hard not to like.

Leather, roasted berry and barnyard make for a rustic, warm nose. The palate is grippy, with chewy, roasted black fruit flavors. Meaty, lasting, deep and dense, but also rubbery and a little low on acidic vitality. A Monastrell-Tempranillo blend to drink now.

Tart cherry aromas and flavors with tarragon accents are wrapped in oak in this medium-weight, mature red. The wine is evenly textured, but the oak sits well to the fore, really predominating on the very dry, tangy-in-a-woody-way finish. —M.M.

Bright cherry flavors up front morph into lovely earthy complexity. Light tannins and adequate acidity mean it should keep a few years, but why wait? Best Buy.

This is a perfectly good, fairly dark Garnacha that oozes bacon smoke and blueberry syrup aromas. The palate is mildly zesty due to adequate acidity, while the blackberry flavors carry a certain savory quality along with firm tannins.

Cherries and an earthy undertone from the Monastrell (Mourvèdre) component come together in an easy-to-drink mature red that has an almost cherry-cough-syrup flavor. Medium weight and ready to drink tonight.

Hot berry fruit, spice and a tame vinegar note define the nose on this simple, somewhat soft and wanting wine from Southeast Spain. The palate is chunky with plum, pepper and herbal flavors. The finish is herbal, too. Adequate but without much elegance or finesse.
