Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Delightfully round and pleasant, with aromas of plum, earth, pencil lead and redwood shavings. The palate is deep and developed, with a full allotment of berry fruits and sweet strawberry working the layer below. Finishes leathery and dry, but not drying. A centered, classy Merlot from Navarra.

Opens with dusty dry-fruit aromas along with weight and rubbery notes. The mouth is juicy and tannic, with tough but respectable plum and cherry flavors accented by firm tannins and herbal notes. Dry, quick and herbal on the finish.

Too sour, strained and vegetal to rally behind. The nose is grassy and green, while the palate tastes of sour apple, gooseberry and lemon. Turns citric, mustardy and a little like asparagus on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Starts with distinct, hard aromas of mustard, horseradish and jerky. In the mouth, it’s full, bullish and tannic, with flavors of bacon, wood resin, smoke and stewed blackberry. Very smoky and dark, with hard tannins, and just not as good as past vintages.

This rating is a follow-up to one we did about a year ago, and it doesn’t seem as though this wine is making any progress. It’s still clumsy as an ox, with stark pineapple flavors and overt acidity. Citrus juice is the best way to describe it; it bears little to no resemblance to Chardonnay as we know it.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
After a couple of vintages of really raving about this Merlot, the ’02, from a cool, wet vintage, just isn’t that great. The nose is dominated by rhubarb and sharpness, while the palate offers peppery flavors and a rough feel. Plenty of olive on the finish brings ripeness into question.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A mixed bag of red-fruit aromas are brought down by a hint of sour pickle, yet the palate is uplifting as it delivers nothing but snappy red-cherry flavors. Grippy and scouring courtesy of live-wire tannins and acidity, but there's enough weight and sweetness to ensure balance. A good tapas wine.

Clean and focused up front, with appealing cola, cherry and plum aromas. If you like wild berry flavors and juicy, borderline aggressive acidity, then Deyo fits your request. It’s a fairly rough, spunky wine with finishing notes of espresso and bitter chocolate. Should match well with salty, robust foods.

Brickish in color, with mature aromas of cedar, pine, tobacco, olive and dried fruits. There’s still some racy acidity that’s keeping the rooty flavors of tobacco, dried berry, coffee and spice moving forward. Finishes dry and a little bit classic; drink now for an affordable taste of Navarra.

Earthy at first, with foresty spice aromas that go from moss to sandalwood. Heavy and hard now, with big black fruit emboldened by full-grained tannins. Exotic on the finish, with chocolate-dipped raisin and some Bordeaux fines herbes. Will hold through 2008 and probably beyond.
