Clean and full, with nuances of tree bark, bramble and dried cherry. This wine sports a good level of balance; there’s some ripe cherry and berry fruit, and also some coffee that creates a dark side. The finish is slightly dry and bitter, but that’s a welcome foil to any leftover sweetness.

Foresty and mature, with wood-spice aromas along with a certain leafy, herbal quality. In the mouth, it’s dark and fairly intense, with black plum and cassis. And the finish is tannic, firm and enveloping. A blend of Cabernet, Tempranillo and Syrah.

Aromas of sweet corn and hay create a creamy sensation, while the palate offers modest lemon and green apple. The finish is tangy, but here some celery and bell pepper appear. It’s a wine seemingly on the down side; best to wait for a subsequent and hopefully fresher vintage.

Smoky and dry, with strong aromas of cherry and forest floor. Flavors of raspberry and cherry blend with greener tomato and basil notes, while the finish is tight and tannic. Very standard; like something you’ve tasted many times before. Imported by Table 31 Imports.

The soft yellow fruit and nutmeg-vanilla notes are nice, though light, but this Chard-Parellada is on the flabby side. Nose offers more yellow fruit, dusted with bubble-gum powder and chalk. Wants structure, and more concentration.

For a not-so-old wine, it shows many signs of being old. A rusty color and drying cherry fruit are the most pronounced. The nose, meanwhile, has some cherry and leather aromas, but even they are weak. It’s not bad, but it seems tired, and that’s the most you can say

Shockingly, this wine is but five years old; it’s color and faded aromas make it seem older. What’s left in the wine is dried cherries and some raisin flavor. It’s a mix of Tempranillo, Cabernet and Merlot. Drink immediately to rescue what life is left.

Timid but clean as a whistle on the nose, with apple and vanilla aromas along with a sprinkling of talcum powder. The palate is lively and fresh, with flavors of pineapple, lemon and other tropical hints. Entirely pedestrian as cava goes, but 100% clean and refreshing.

Reddish in color and devoid of a visible bubble bead, this Garnacha-Monastrell cava is lacking in many ways. The nose is grassy and ashy, sort of like a spent cigar, and it’s cheesy as well. In the mouth, it’s fairly bland tasting, with generic, semitart flavors and a sharp finish.
