Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Aged in neutral oak and blended with about 12% Merlot, this light (12.7% alcohol) Sangiovese is a nice alternative to heavier, more tannic reds. The fruit is simple and clean, strawberry and cherry candy. The balance is good, and the finish persists with malted chocolate highlights.

This 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon blend is a fruity, rustic wine, with broad mixed berry and cherry flavors. They lead into an earthy and tannic (and short) finish.

Strong earthy scents of black olive and barnyard dominate the nose. The flavors mix black cherry fruit with earth and stem; tannins are quite firm and a bit green.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Aged in neutral oak and blended with 15% Cabernet Franc, this is a high-toned wine with sharp, vinegary acids, but not much character. Tannins are chewy and mask the fruit.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Neutral oak, 100% varietal. These three new releases from Cave B all taste of extremely young fruit, perhaps overcropped? In any event, without much going on. This is acidic, tastes like cranberry juice, with some volatility also.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A Bordeaux-style blend that is a barrel selection from estate fruit. The tannins are substantial in all the Cave B reds, but particularly so here––thick and astringent to the point of chalky. There is interesting depth and some high-toned red fruits.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Pine and herb and green apple scents introduce this sharply defined wine, with crisp acidity and bright fruit flavors. It’s tight and juicy, an excellent companion to creamy dishes or soft cheeses.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A big step up for this winery’s Gewürztraminer, this off-dry style puts the emphasis on a flavor mix of sweet tea, Meyer lemon, orange candy and a hint of granular sugar. Tasty and full-bodied, with balancing acids.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Brambly fruit, loam, pencil lead and tarry notes morph into a high acid, thickly tannic mouthfeel. Spicy plum and pie cherry fruit thins out quickly, with a lightly toasty finish.
