Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Austere, minerally and fresh, with delicate aromas of strawberry and lime. A lightweight summer rosé made of 100% Syrah from the northern Rhône.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Toasty and fully oaked, with peachy aromas along with vanilla. A custardy, rich wine partially fermented in new oak, this Marsanne-Roussannne blend delivers plenty of body and thickness; fortunately it has enough minerality, acidity and fruit to earn its grade. Best if you like Burgundian style with some obvious wood and related resin.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
There is perfumed fruit, with aromas of red currants. This wine, named after the granite soil which forms the base of Saint-Joseph, is earthy, ripe and firmly tannic, but with plenty of red fruit flavors. It should develop quickly, over the next 2-3 years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A respectable value for a northern Rhône Syrah, the Tain co-op’s 2004 is a soft, easygoing wine with pepper and prune aromas and flavors. Not a lot of stuffing or weight, but shows a fair degree of elegance.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A modern, rich, almost new-world style of wine in its open fruit and generous new wood flavors. Ripe peaches and nectarines give the wine great richness. At this stage, the wood is still too dominant, but over the next four or five years, the opulent fruit will certainly balance out.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Darker than the co-op’s Crozes-Hermitage, with prune and coffee aromas and flavors. It’s dark and sturdy, but still marked by firm acidity on the finish. Drink now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Lacks the haunting fragrance of the best Hermitage wines, but shows plenty of concentrated dark fruit and toasty oak. Supple and vanilla-laden at first, it firms up and shows more plum fruit and pepper on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A new cuvée from the Tain co-op, a 400-case blend of two plots of 100-year-old vines. It’s rich, filled with orange marmalade and honey flavors yet nicely balanced by fresh acidity. Shows hints of fennel and toasty oak on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Interestingly, the co-op (as a business entity) owns 55 acres in Hermitage, while its growers individually only own 23 acres. In general, bright raspberries accent cassis fruit, and while a bit of wood is evident, it’s nicely integrated and balanced. Shows decent length, peppery spice and supple tannins on the finish. Drink now–2015.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A very good effort from this modern co-op in Tain. There’s good concentration and balance, with meaty, cedary notes playing against cherry fruit, while the structure is firm but approachable. Drink now.
