Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Hugely aromatic, with sweet scents of flowers and candied licorice. Very big for a Tuscan white, a reflection of the warm region from which it hails as well as the warm summer in which it was born. On the back end, the finish pushes ripe apple and pear flavors.

Seems old before its time, sporting aromas of baked fruit and worn glove leather. It’s supple and aromatic but lacks the vibrancy and energy you’d expect from a young Sangiovese. Fading, but still holds some appeal.

This is decent, basic Chianti with a tart cherry and spice profile. It took a little time for some sulfur on the nose to blow off, but when it did, the flavors were solid and the mouthfeel decent. Shows some tobacco and leather on the modest finish. Not complex, but good for every day.

This first vintage of Coevo (a super Tuscan blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot) represents a new and dynamic project for Tuscany’s historic Cecchi estate. The wine is rich, opulent and redolent of all kinds of dark fruit and spice.

Light and smelling of cherry Kool-Aid. Candied on the palate and finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The tight, foresty red-berry nose opens with airing, setting the stage for a distinct plum flavor underscored by coffee and toasty oak. The fruit here is a little lean, but it’s a nice, tasty wine sure to work well with food. Despite being simple and straightforward, it should please most consumers.

Musky aromas and flavors of melon and nectarine turn tart and lemony on the palate. The perfect setting for this wine: New York’s San Gennaro festival, washing down clams from a mobile raw bar.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
There’s a soapy-floral quality to this wine that is reminiscent of honeycomb, honeysuckle and ripe peach. Thick and consistent in the glass, the wine has a creamy feel and some sourness on the finale.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Firm but still a bit fleshy, with clean lemon and melon aromas. The palate is spunky and balanced, with tangy citrus and melon flavors. Finishes adequately long and fairly crisp, with lasting notes of passion fruit and grapefruit.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The ripe fruit here bears lots of oak, yielding a black plum and licorice flavor profile, but it’s pleasing and balanced on the palate. Sweet wood and cherry aromas play out on the fairly tannic finish. Good now, better in a year, but you have to have a taste for wood.
