I opened this on a whim, since the vintage is much maligned; what a pleasant surprise awaited me; a sweet nose of perfumed floral scents and ripe fruit aromas mix with classic earthen and peppery aromas with hints of licorice and chocolate, lighter nose and perhaps not as intense as in better years; sweet and smooth in the mouth, nice light fruit flavors; fresh and clean; quite forward and certainly ready to drink although I suspect it can still handle a few years in the cellar; flavors of black fruits, light tannins, tobacco; nice citric finish that leaves a fresh texture in the mouth; not a lot of depth here, but good flavors and went very well with my roasted lamb. This wine seems to be performing better and better, and the “off” vintages seem to bring out its better qualities; sweet nose, lots of black fruits, herbs, touch of earth, green pepper, some smokiness; good sweetness in the mouth; somewhat simple and light with not much depth, but certainly a pleasant and enjoyable wine; there are light tannins in the wine, but I can discern little acidity; medium finish, again simple but nice; not a wine for the ages, but a good show of the “new” style of forward Bordeaux from a lesser vintage. Very mushroomy and musty nose, dense and sweet but clearly showing age now; sweet and rich in the mouth; it took the wine several minutes to open up and show its structure; rich and ripe fruit, quite dense and thick but very pleasant; the cork in this bottle was in pretty bad shape, so this was not indicative of the wine, which in last year’s notes showed much better from the same case.
