Somewhat dark but clear and sparkling color still, the wine opens with an obviously aged nose, aromas of sweet honey and mead, there is a touch of sherry to the nose, but at the same time there is also a freshness and focus that shows that there is no real damage to the internal structure form age; sweet and ripe on the palate; there is a surprising amount of fresh, lemony acidity that is still very much in the center of this wine; flavors of apricots and honeyed fruit; good length and a nice finish, although the oxidation begins to be felt at the end; of the two bottles served one was much better than the other. (17 for the better bottle)

A very sweet nose with a hint of confectioner’s sugar, smoke, sweet spices, green herbs, not very complex though; sweet and round in the front of the mouth, but then there is a shot of acidity in the mid-mouth that produces a spicy, somewhat aggressive bite; settles down at the finish to return to a more seductive and spicy set of flavors; big wine with lots of flavor. (18/20)

Sweet and herbal nose, perfumed and ripe with a touch of cabbage and spicy herbs; sweet, rich and concentrated in the mouth, very full-flavored and spicy, sweet but balanced with a nice citrus fruit undertone; rich and mouthcoating at the end with lemon peel and other citrus highlights; this is a terrific wine. (18.5/20) Several other times during the year; consistent notes.
