This wine has always had a good nose and age has made it better, perfumed and aromatic with floral scents mixing with the more traditional strong aromas of green pepper, green herbs, spices, earthen with a hint of chocolate; the wine is now fully evolved, but it never was one of the top ‘66s; sweet fruit in the mouth quickly turns dry and citric with a harsh austerity; dry dusty tannins; a solid finish, but the wine lacks grace. Always an interesting wine from one of the inconsistent vintages; this wine has a classic and classy nose, very typical of Pauillac with lots of earth tones, truffle, and smoke mixed with sweet fruit, perhaps a bit thin and simple, giving away the lesser vintage conditions that prevailed, and with a strong touch of metallic aromas; classic on the palate; earthy and defined by light fresh fruit flavors, not a big wine and lacking the depth and complexity that accompanies a top year from this property, the wine is very good; red cherry fruit flavors; good finish, a bit thin and dry but actually quite balanced; not a wine to be ignored.
