Deep and rich aromas, layers of mocha and black fruits oozing chocolate, black pepper, blackberries and crème de cassis, full and rich nose, but at the same time deep and brooding, and not at all yet ready to smile; sweet and ripe in the mouth, powerful flavors that are deep and rich; flavors of blackberries most dominant, but there is much more, much of it still veiled; what emerges are some hints of smoked meat, caramel, spices, and tar, but there is definitely more to come; this is a powerful and bottomless wine with years to go.

Opens with a very metallic nose that has the aroma of aluminum cans, then evolves well to show a more appealing nose of green herbs and ripe rich black fruits that are layered into earth and stones; in the mouth the wine exhibits a lot of sweetness and density right from the start; there are also layers of green herbs and dry tannins that are assertive but not overpowering; showing some age now, but still one of the top wines from this vintage. Sweet nose of fully mature fruit, rich to the extent that it is actually buttery, there is cassis and toffee, but also some volatile acidity evident in this bottle; sweet and very ripe in the mouth but somewhat undefined; solid, dense chewy tannins with quite a bit of earth and pepper flavors; begins to fall apart at the finish as the tannins take over, becoming quite searing and hot with a hard shell at the end; definitely time to drink up, and maybe past time.
