Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Deep nose, lots of red and black fruits, rich and perfumed nose, a bit barnyardy and very fruity, sweet, black peppers and mixed spices; big powerful flavors, rich and at the same time showing strong presence of acidity; big red fruit finish, very balanced, still quite young, but already layered and mouth-coating; needs more time to show its full potential, but an important wine, and perhaps the best since the intense ’89. (18.5/20)

Deep and rich nose with lots of black fruits, quite perfumed and aromatic, barnyardy; intense and powerful in the mouth with layers of rich fruit and big tannins; this wine has a lot of acidity that is still a bit searing at this time, but should preserve the future development in the bottle; long finish with red fruits and mouthcoating textures; this wine needs more time but is showing a lot of class now; I liked it better than thevielles vignes noted above. (18.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Deep and rich nose with layers of honeyed fruit, spicy with green spice aromas, vinyl, metallic and with aromas of bread; sweet and ripe fruit, but almost cloying and over-the-top in sweetness; silky textures, but crude and pretty two-dimensional. (14/20) Another bottle at the Veritas Group dinner at Fleur de Sel was better with a deeply rich nose loaded with honeyed fruit and bread aromas, slightly roasted, spicy with touches of vinyl; sweet and ripe in the mouth with honeyed ripe fruit flavors; a bit heavy and crude but enjoyable. (15.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Loads of sweet fruit, slightly smoky, perfumed and very aromatic with a slight minerally and lemony aroma; sweet and spicy in the mouth with lots of fat and grip; there is an overarching taste of tangerines in this wine which is both unique and pleasant; that flavor is balanced with more traditional flavors of lemon peel, grapefruit and spices; long, smooth and rich finish; unique and pleasant. (18/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
This wine is quite rare with only a few bottles making it into the U.S.; spicy sweet aromas, very aromatic with green vegetables; anise, caraway, mixed spices; sweet and ripe on the palate, dense and almost waxy on the tongue; very spicy and intense on the one hand, while retaining some aloofness from the palate; soft and smooth; long finish, round and softly textured flavors; unique and polished. (18.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Big complex nose opening with leather and tobacco, peppers and spices, mixed with very sweet fruit and black licorice aromas, slightly metallic with a touch of mint evident; sweet but in a lighter style for these wines; ripe fruit mixed with quite high acidity; powerful in the mouth with big red fruits at the finish; layered and mouthcoating at the finish. (18/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Light and aromatic nose, leather and tobacco scents dominate, but the nose is a complex of pepper and other spices, tea leaves, licorice and a touch of mint; sweet and ripe in the mouth with a nice light touch that is both interesting and elegant; soft and polished; this wine has a great finish with a nice balance of fruit and the more traditional earthen elements of the Rhone. Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Deep nose, earthen and leathery, filled with black fruits and quite perfumed and complex, aromas of barnyard, tar, licorice, and green herbs, peppery; sweet in the front of the mouth with lots of black fruits in the body of the wine, expanding to show more complexity with leather and tobacco mixed with lemony flavors; elegant finish, refined if a bit high in alcohol on the palate. (18.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Perfumed and intensely aromatic nose, loaded with sweet, deep aromas of leather, spices and green herbs, tar, licorice, and alcohol; first taste is sweet and fruity; then becoming more tannic in the mid-mouth; evolving to a more elegant and balanced wine at the end with citrus fruit acidity, tobacco, also a strong presence of alcohol; quite impressive now and has been for several years. (18.5/20)
