Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
91-93 Barrel sample. Belair has been given a new name, after Christian Moueix's grandmother, in honor of its purchase by the Moueix family. The wine is ripe, with its dark tannins and perfumed fruit, lifted by a final smoky character.

92-94 Smoky wine, dominated by its dry tannins, seemingly extracted. The wine certainly has weight and power, but the dryness is a major element at this stage. It will need serious aging time.

94-96 Barrel sample. There is some initial mineral austerity, but this lies on top of powerful fruits. The wine is dense and solid on the chunky side. Very concentrated.

Big and structured wine, with ripe jammy fruit. Rich spice, soft tannins and dense texture all come together to give a rounded feel. Acidity at the end makes a final, tight contrast.
