Fronton, a small vineyard area just outside Toulouse specializesin the Negrette grape. This gives a dried fruit character, along with juicy black grapes and a dense, dusty texture. The wine has a touch of wood to smooth out the rustic wrinkles.

There is a barnyard feel to this wine, from its rustic aromas through the edgy berry fruit to the final flavors of acidity and beetroot. The character gives licorice and spice as well as blackberry fruits.

Made from old vines, this is a blend of Syrah and Négrette, with some Cabernet Sauvignon to give extra structure. It has fresh juiciness, with red plum and berry flavors, a touch of sweet chocolate, the wood aging well judged to leave the clarity of the fruit.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A wine that is rounded, fresh but with some weight, giving ripe strawberry and crisp acidity at the same time. There is some softness, but the wine is very dry, obviously a food wine.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A wine for further aging. The wood element is powerful, but then so is the rich, jammy fruit. You can feel the weight, taste the extraction, the bitter chocolate character bursting out of the ripest blackberry fruit flavors. Keep for 2–3 years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
With all the freshness given by the Négrette, this is a red fruit dominated wine, its acidity ripe, touched by candy and strawberries. This is a wine to drink now, with all the crispness of 2004 still in place.

Believed to be the same as the Mavro grown in Cyprus, Négrette has found its only home in France near the city of Toulouse, probably brought there by Crusaders. This 98% Négrette wine expresses all the wild strawberry and pepper flavors of the grape. It is fruity, fresh, juicy, with no wood to hide the fruit.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A big wine, with its great floral perfumes dominating the dark tannins and dense texture. The berry fruit is part of this powerful expression of structure. Here the Négrette expresses its pure juicy and tannic character, leaving final very fresh acidity.
