Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Smoked tea leaves, prosciutto and cola aromas ensure interest. In the mouth, it’s extracted and fairly rich, with earth, black plum and coffee flavors. Firm tannins keep the finish strong. It’s muscular yet balanced; full yet drinkable. And it should last for another couple of years

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
After the excellent 2006 Wetzel Estate, this new Riesling is a bit of a letdown. It’s thin and tart, with some cardboardy flavors and not much in the way of fruit.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A surprisingly tart wine, given its relatively low 11.5% alcohol and off-dry 2.5% residual sugar. It’s got a strong citrus component—Mandarin orange and lemon peel, with just a suggestion of pineapple also.

Rather simple and plain, this Cellar Select trips across the palate like a ghost. Not much there in the way of fruit or flavor.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The Estate reserve ramps it up just a bit from the Cellar Select, but most of the flavor is herbal, leaning toward leaves and stems. The fruit is less than optimally ripe, the tannins are chewy, and the finish earthy and high toned.

Thin for a reserve. The fruit is watery and tart, with flavors of beetroot and a vegetal finish. Breathing time and food may help.—P.G.

Very light, to the point of being watery, with hints of citrus and tea. The finish leaves a sour aftertaste.

A mix of disjointed impressions. Some floral notes collide with sour acids, then lead into a confected, candied finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Thick in the mouth, with sour lemon and barely ripe pineapple flavors, somewhat balanced against more delicate orange peel. The alcohol is 10%, yet despite the residual sugar the wine tastes quite tart.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This has similar, spicy fruit flavors as the winery’s regular Gewürztraminer, but here the sugar comes in at just .08% so the wine feels much more dry. The rich, textural palate adds wet stone to the mix. The alcohol reaches a healthy 14.3% but is not intrusive.
