90-92 Great swathes of sweet tannins and ripe berry fruits, the wine is delicious, ripe, concentrated and intense without losing charm.

89-91 Barrel sample. A ripe wine, heavily dominated by new wood, spice, herbs and dry tannins. The fruit tannins are somewhat harsh and tough, but the ripe fruit will certainly develop.

With the huge investment of the Edmond de Rothschild family, it is no surprise that this is the most powerful Listrac wine. This is rich, hugely dense, and very ripe. The tannins are more dusty and soft than usual Bordeaux, but that is the year. Vanilla and grilled almonds show through as the wine finishes. A successful wine that should age well. The full whammy of bacon and sweet smokiness on the nose announces that this wine was heavily oaked. And the tannins and lemony nuances that penetrate the palate and finish confirm that. In between there’s ripe, blasting cherry fruit and acids that create a sweet-tart candy impression.

86-88 Barrel sample. Firmly tannic and rather jammy at the same time, a wine that shows a rustic edge, but does retain the juiciness of the year.

89-91 Barrel sample. Well balanced, the fruit fresh but ripe. There is an edge of dry tannins which slashes through the fruit, giving a firm, dry aftertaste.

With its Rothschild family ownership, Clarke is the superstar of Listrac. This 2004 is a wine that shows great ripe fruit along with new wood, but also the proper structure of Listrac, with dry tannins and a foursquare character.

86-89 For so long, this Rothschild owned estate has disappointed. Now, as the vines age, it has turned in a 2003 which is spicy, dense with powerful fruit.
