Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This finely structured wine offers good aging possibilities. But, for the moment, it has great acidity, juicy red fruits, solid tannins and a powerful new wood element that has come well into balance.

The French call this wine harmonious, and it is balance that gives it its charm, its character and its intensity. It starts with black, dense fruits and only half way through do the tannins kick in. At the end, the whole is greater than the parts, with acidity the last lingering memory.

87-89 Dusty tannins indicate how ripe the fruit was in this wine. There are oak flavors, plus spice and toast, but the dominant character is blackcurrant fruit.

90-92 Barrel sample. This is a finely crafted wine, packed with all the right tannins that blend easily into the wood and blackberry flavors. The fruit is very pure, intense and finely layered.

91-93 Barrel sample. On the dry, structured side, a wine with huge fruit tannins that roll over the fruit. The concentration is palpable, all dense fruit. The berry flavors get a look-in right at the end. For long aging, as long as the tannins finally soften.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This Clerc-Milon, under the same winemaking team as Mouton Rothschild, is an attractive wine, not heavy, already quite soft. It seems to have been heavily extracted, in a New World style, with new wood aromas and flavors, losing something of Pauillac, but a winner in that it’s immediately attractive. Imported by Diageo Chateau & Estates.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Clerc-Milon continues on its rising path of quality with this rich and rounded magnificent 2005. Driven by rich, red jam fruits, and dominated by the dense, solid tannins, this wine is already approachable, but will develop over 8–12 years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Rounded, relatively soft wine, but one that shows balance. Sweet fruit plays with black currant acidity, giving density, even if the tannins are lightweight. Clerc-Milon, made by the team that also produces Mouton-Rothschild, has become a delicious Pauillac.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The wine is dark, deep, rich and dense. It has just the right wood element, black berry juice and a pure line of acidity. It is weighty for a 2008, while keeping the freshness.
