A high toast wine, the fruit and fresh acidity submerged beneath the wood. At the present, it is hard to enjoy, but in 2–3 years the fruit will kick in. It would be good if the producer had been less enthusiastic about the wood.

Under the watchful eye of consultant Michel Rolland, Candale has produced an intense, powerful expression of super-ripe Merlot. The tannins are dense, powering through the dark berry fruit, rounded by the wood. It could do with 4–5 years aging.

Minty overtones set the scene for a smoothly textured wine that shows rich, super-ripe fruit, blackberry jam flavors and a dense, dusty tannic structure. It is sweet, modern in style, a wine that doesn’t want to keep anything back.

This is a style of wine that offers a blockbuster view of Bordeaux. It is full of dark extracted fruits, brooding tannins, dark plum juice and a burnt feeling that comes from alcohol. In its style, it goes for excess.
