The wood that dominated during the futures tastings in 2008 has calmed down, merging more easily into the rich fruits. There is an attractive smoky character, focused berry flavors and delicious spice. It should age well over 3–5 years.

91-93 Barrel sample. A wine that wants to be grand, but where the tannins are still getting the better of it. It is solid, chunky, the black plum flavors still struggling to get out.

Under the same ownership as Giscours, and benefiting from big investment in recent years, this is an estate at the top of its form. The wine has aromas of sweet, new wood, while the palate is packed with tarry fruits and spicy wood and herbs. Flavors of ripe black currants give a rich, satisfying feel. This is a wine that is well structured, dense and, given another five years, will be delicious.

89-91 A wine that is lighted by its acidity. It has weight, certainly, but the dominance is freshness. Extreme final smoky juiciness.

87-89 Barrel sample. Rich, open fruit that is almost red rather than black characterizes this wine. It has new wood spice and relative softness, despite intense acidity, that implies a quick development.

92-94 Barrel sample. Well balanced wine, the spiced wood integrating well with the rich plum and berry juice fruits. Firm, but generous.

A beautifully crafted wine that has both richness and sweetness. It brings together the fresh character of 2006 with more powerful elements, such as new wood and spice, enveloped plushly with ripe fruit. The tannins have a dark element, but fit well with the sweet fruit. All in all, a delicious wine that also has aging potential.

91—93 Barrel sample. A balanced, structured wine which brings its structure into play with the rich, but fresh fruit. The wine has good acidity, as well as some tense tannins.
