The first bottling from this limited handmade wine described above; this vintage 80% merlot, 15% cabernet franc, 5% cabernet sauvignon, 250 cases produced; very ripe and rich nose with lots of deep fruit aromas, earthy and sweet, soft floral aromas mixed with big extracted aromas; sweet and rich on the palate, loaded with black and red fruits; sweet and dense in the mouth, cherries and plums dominate the body of this wine; soft exotic spices and velvety tannins; big and forward, with a touch of “California” characteristics; intense and quite impressive, however, for a first vintage; spicy, nuanced and ripe, and certainly enjoyable. This is a very limited production; new 4.4 acre property in St. Émilion, developed by Michel Gracia; produced only 400 cases of wine in 1998; this was the second harvest for this property; this vintage is 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc; deep and intense nose of black cherries and wood, tar and smoke, earthen tones with oriental spices; still quite closed and obscure, but clearly shows the careful toning that this wine undergoes in this hand-made effort; big citric core now with a hint of deep and intense fruit, but closed in a tannic shell; a bit hard now, but who can tell what would happen with aging; certainly has good balance and length.
