A Merlot-based wine from old vines on the plains at the base of the hill of Saint-Emilion. This is soft and fresh, with an element of wood and smoky tannins to give structure and aging potential. The ripe, jammy fruit flavors are balanced by freshness and vibrant acidity.

86-88 Barrel sample. A modern style of wine, blackly fruity and polished with spice and herbs, while surprisingly advanced with rich tobacco and chocolate flavors.

88—90 Barrel sample. A new venture for producer Jonathan Maltus, this wine shows beautiful perfumes of Cabernet Franc, with violets and rose petal. The fruit is balanced, sweet, very fruity, just hinting at sold tannins.

Dark fruits, bitter chocolate and black plums all come together in this dense, firm wine that never loses sight of sweetness. Alongside the structure, there is still plenty of juicy fruit that lifts the wine, especially in the aftertaste.

Dominated by new wood, this wine has not yet found its true character. It will likely become rich and juicy, with black plum and spice flavors coming forward in 2–3 years. For the moment, it is all about firmness and dryness.
