Typical of the huge power of Guiraud, this is one of the richest Sauternes in 2005. The wine is rich and intense, the dry edge of botrytis just dominating the sweetness. Flavors of honey, almonds and peaches give the wine extra complexity.

90-92 Barrel sample. Already, this wine is developing a golden color. Typical of Guiraud, to taste it is big and powerful and full of complexity and ripeness. Currently missing freshness, but that will come later.

87—89 Barrel sample. There’s plenty of botrytis here, giving a wine with a great fresh burst of acidity along with the sweetness.

92-94 A closed up wine, although all the elements are there, promising great final balance, richness and power.

For a 2004, this is big and rich, but that is to be expected from Guiraud. The fruit is magnificently ripe, with flavors of peach and tangerine syrup along with the core of botrytis and dark honey. The aftertaste is exotically spicy.

90-92 A little tart, this wine lacks richness at this stage. But there is botrytis there, so it will develop into a firm, dry, but rich wine.

Sweet, rich orange marmalade flavors, maybe not as imposingly powerful as Guiraud can be, but still with a great inner tension between sweetness and dry botrytis, precede a delicious addition of lemon zest and a final burst of sweetness balanced with acidity.

A gold-colored wine. The palate has intense freshness as well as ripe apricot and orange zest flavors. The acidity cuts through the intense richness, leaving a wine that needs time to fully integrate, and then many more years to mature.

92-94 Barrel sample. Firm, richly structured, powered through with botrytis, a dried apricot and peach character, which is tight, the acidity compensating with a great vivid character.

95-97 Barrel sample. Poised well between complex dry botrytis and very sweet, ripe fruit, this is a concentrated wine, full of richness rather than total sweetness. There is a final burst of spice.
