This fifth growth is punching above its class under the control of Claire Villars-Lurton (whose family also runs Chasse-Spleen and La Gurgue). The wine is foursquare, rich and solid, filled with firm tannins.Blackcurrant fruit flavors, herbs and acidity complet a serious style of wine.

While this wine has pleasant fruit, there are also some dark edges of black berries and rough tannins. The focus is shaded, still developing.

92-94 Barrel sample. Very opulent, generous and rich. It shows all the glories of the vintage, with huge but sufficiently restrained fruit, and exuberant tannins.

Solid tannins, black fruits and dark chocolate go into this dense wine. It is a powerful statement of Pauillac; this will develop slowly and take its time to soften out.

92-94 The tannins are so dense and concentrated in this wine, that it is hard to discern the fruit. But the weight suggests the fruit will have equal density to the tannins.

A great success for this fifth growth, run by Claire Villars. The 2003 is velvety, rounded, beautifully balanced. It is not a densely powerful wine, showing more elegance and seduction. It is already developing, and should be ready to drink in four or five years, maybe less. Imported by Diageo Chateau & Estates.

91-93 Barrel sample. Very juicy wine, with high acidity, the fruit very fresh, bright, all blackcurrant fruits. The structure is light and brilliant.

92-94 Concentrated tannins, very rich, very firm, very dry at this stage. There is a more juicy character underneath, offering the potential of rich berry fruits. There's a new wood, smoky aftertaste.

90-92 Barrel sample. This has all the hallmarks of a solid Pauillac - the blackcurrant Cabernet fruits, the dark and dry tannins and a firm explosion of solid structure that goes deep down.
