Made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc old vines, this has been given a heavy dose of wood, including barrel fermentation and lees stirring. The result is a definite hit, rich and almost Burgundian in its wood flavors and concentration, but with just that hint of herbaceousness to remind you it is Sauvignon.

An herbaceous wine, smoothed out by spicy wood. The wine is balanced, the wood a delicious extra to pear and green plum-skin fruit flavors. Very perfumed, it demands fish with a sauce or scallops.

Haut-Bertinerie is part of the Bertinerie estate in Blaye, producing wines that show good depth of flavor. This 2008 adds richness, spice and dark tannins to the mix, giving powerful berry fruits, an edge of wood and fine acidity.

Spicy, soft wine, full of sweet juicy fruit, the wood element more of feeling of roundness than taste. The wine has fresh blackberry fruits and a gentle core of tobacco and tannin.

A spicy wine, all new wood with plenty of toast. The fruit, however, is rich enough to cope, giving a mouthfilling wine, dense and sweetly tannic with a firm, ripe finish. Age this wine for another year.

A big wood-aged wine made from old vines at the Bertinerie estate. Certainly, there is plenty of wood aroma; in the mouth, the dry wood tannins are balanced by the rich, concentrated black fruits. Coffee and mocha flavors add complexity to an already impressive wine.

The wood gives a spicy aroma, and the palate has an attractive touch of ginger to go with the pink grapefruit and green plum flavors. A soft wine that has toast as well as ripe acidity.
