A beautifully balanced, harmonious wine—as so often in recent years from Haut-Bailly—this is the epitome of deliciously drinkable Bordeaux. The wild strawberry flavors and the elegant, velvet texture are balanced by firm, structured tannins. Like other vintages from Haut-Bailly, expect this to develop over many years.

While at this young stage there may be toasty aromas, there is also intense, perfumed fruit. This complex, distinguished wine is polished, with plenty of bright fruits and acidity.

91-93 Barrel sample. Dark, very tough, this wine certainly lacks charm at this stage, with the fruit completely hidden by tannins. But it will come round, because the weight is there, even if the pleasure isn't at the moment.

90—92 Barrel sample. High wood aromas, the palate dominated by wood. The fruit is diminished and hidden by all this toast, giving quite a bitter aftertaste. This is wine that needs aging.

A dense wine, very much in the line of powerful wines from Haut-Bailly. Flavors of bitter chocolate, sweet berry fruits and richness are dominant, the acidity a fine balancing act to give a burst of freshness.

For the vintage, this is an austere style of wine, emphasising tannins over fruit. The fruit is certainly rich, and the tannins are dusty rather than dry, but it is a wine which is developing more slowly, suggesting it is also a wine for long-term aging.

92-94 Barrel sample. This is a dark, firm, strongly tannic but impressive wine, with a dry core of dark fruits. They open slowly to reveal a rich undertow of blackberry jelly fruit flavors.

93-95 Very concentrated wine, although its tannins are well integrated into the fresh berry fruits and bright acidity. That gives the wine a style that brings out a more open character. Very promising future.
