Owned by négociant firm Dourthe, La Garde has developed hugely in recent years both for red and white wines. This white from 2003 is certainly rich, a product of the hot summer, but it shows good balance from the light touch of vanilla wood flavors, creamed apples and some good tannic structure. Age over the next five years.

Spicy new wood is obvious in the aroma of this smooth, polished, ripe white wine. It has richness, with its flavors of nutmeg, pears and fresh red apple acidity. The wine is worth aging for two years, to allow the fruit and wood to blend.

92-94 Barrel sample. Spicy wood, ginger and nutmeg, balancing with solid textured black fruits. The wine is rich, a powerhouse of sweet tannins, finishing freshly with black currant juice

90-92 Barrel sample. Fresh, full in the mouth wine, the bright Sauvignon character, rounded and given a pear fruit character. Just touched by wood.

Dark in color, this wine has sold tannins over rich mint and black plum fruits. The structure is firm, but the whole wine has enough richness to sustain the dry core and to offer 4–5 years aging.
