A smooth wine that softens well, but that still retains rich fruits and dense, dusty tannins. There is good power here, from blackberry and red plums, the texture of velour. Drink now and over the next 3–4 years.

In contrast to the château wine, this reserve from Château Lamothe-Cissac is for aging. It is still firmly tannic, solid and dark with big ripe fruit and spice from the wood. It holds together well, very balanced. Give it five years.
