Good aromas of mulberries and blackberries, tar, smoke, quite rich and sweet on the nose; disappointingly thin and acidic in the mouth; there is a good deal of fresh tannin in the wine, and lots of acidity, but there seems to be a lack of real fruit and body; the wine tastes dilute and flat, simple and short; I don’t think that more bottle time is going to help this wine much as it will remain simple and short. One of the better properties outside of the grand cru area, this château is making better wine all of the time; a very deep and rich nose, loaded with sweet spices, rich cassis aromas, wet earth, smooth and thick aromas mixed with pepper and tar; quite sweet and smooth on the way in, but fails to develop fully; there is a lot of flavor here with sweet black fruit flavors, good acidity but not too much and dry but smooth tannins; nice fresh citrus flavors, but not enough of them; the finish at this time is a little bitter from the tannins that have not fully integrated; this wine is serious and needs more bottle time to develop more finesse; it’s not going to challenge the top tier, but it’s certainly holding its own.
