An austere wine, showing structure more than fruit. It is laced with wood, which adds spice. Only at the end is there a hint of black currant fruit.

91-93 Barrel sample. A solidly structured wine, showing great swatches of fruit, wrapped around dark tannins. There is a juicy element, some wood, also a sense of aging.

This chateau shows continual improvement, and 2000 is a triumph. The wine is in a modern style, although at this stage its tannins are still firm and dry. Red fruit flavors and blackcurrants promise huge drinking pleasure to come.

Too polished for its own good, this suffers from layers of new wood which submerge the fruit. It is certainly a ripe wine, with blackberry fruit flavors, but the wood tannins dominate.

88-90 Barrel sample. Larmande, now owned by an insurance company, has been heavily renovated, and the style of the wine is now dominated by wood, with persistent, dry tannins and smooth fruit.

88-90 On the firm, dry side, with more tannins than fruit, this is a wood-laden, extracted wine. It is tough, with a bitter edge.
