In 2000, this was still the property of Lily Lacoste, who also owned Pétrus. Latour à Pomerol was sold in 2001 to a Catholic charity. The management, then and now, is with the Moueix family who make the most of the fabulous vineyard. The 2000 is a hugely opulent, velvet textured wine, but it retains hints of the elegance that is the hallmark of this property.

Licorice, chocolate and black plums all show immediately in this rich, dense wine. Sweet tannins combine with fresh tobacco smokiness over jammy, ripe fruit. This array of flavors is kept in check by the over-arching acidity.

92-94 Barrel sample. Impressively powerful wine, smothered in ripe fruit, with a velvet texture over solid tannins. Fine concentration along with great fruit.

90-92 Barrel sample. Another huge Pomerol. But like other wines vinified by Christian Moueix, this has a fine sense of balance, its softly extracted tannins and dry fruits paired with deliciously fresh blueberry flavors.

90—92 Barrel sample. Complex, this is a wine that is slashed through with fresh fruit, but that only enhance the dense tannins and solid structure. Yet it preserves a lightness and freshness.

A big, dry wine, firm, and not offering much fruit at this stage. It is obviously concentrated, and as it evolves, the fruit will develop richness. This small, 20-acre property is mainly situated on gravel soils next to Pomerol church, at the heart of the appellation.

A dry, condensed wine, with oak tannins that show through. There is an element of old wood here that gives some austerity. At the same time, the fruit is certainly ripe and juicy, promising long-term aging potential when the wood and fruit come together.
