This small estate, dedicated to white wines only, is part of the same stable as Château Haut-Brion itself. This superb wine is packed with ripe, sweet fruit, but equally importantly, shows intensity, layers of wood, a great citrus character and the acidity so typical of 2002. This is a long-term wine: drink in 10–15 years.

92-94 Barrel sample. Hugely citrusy in character, this delicious wine has layers of wood, spice and intense acidity. A powerful wine, but on that retains its delicacy.

Citrus and tropical fruits dominate this rich wine, while the wood gives caramel. Full and mouthfilling, this is rounded, the acidity veering towards softness. The toast and white plum skins give structure to an open, generous wine.

Rich, wonderfully concentrated wine, with ripe apricots, green plums, touches of toast riding over a structure that is just beginning a long aging process. Give this wine 10 years. This is the last vintage under this name. From 2009, the wine has been rebaptized Château La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc.

93—95 Barrel sample. A beautiful wine, full of white fruits, citric character and concentrated structured fruit. Great green fruits give a freshness to the wine, which is fleshed out with spice from the wood.

94-96 Barrel sample. With its lively fruit and fine, ripe,oily Sémillon texture, this is a fragrant, citrus flavored wine. White peach tastes are edged by pink grapefruit. The aftertaste is very fresh, very mineral.

Sweet nose, light but pleasant aromas, rich and unctuous with the usual touch of vinyl and petroleum; light and sweet in the mouth, there is a definite touch of botrytis here; the center is dry suggesting that this wine spent quite a bit of time on the lees; dry citric finish, well-focused and lemony. Sweet and powerful nose with concentrated lemon aromas, intense and loaded with the characteristic vinyl aromas that define this wine in good years; smooth and velvety, like liquid velvet in the mouth with soft and sweet fruit on the palate; there is a real edge of sharply-honed lemon flavors in this wine that take it to the edge of hardness, but the overall structure and finish is one of richness and pure pleasure; very good for this genre, which often does not get much respect.
