A taut, firm wine, with ripe but dry tannins and layers of acidity. This chateau, owned by the Chanfreau family since 1963, has made a 2003 that corresponds more to the terroir than to the hot year; it has crisp black currant flavors rather than huge fruit. Imported by Youngs Market Co.

Firm, dark-hued wine that shows considerable acidity to go with its fresh fruits, smoke flavors and rough-edged wood. The black currant acidity is very dominant at this stage, edging out the rich core, which needs time.

A dense wine, from one of the landmark chateaus of Listrac. It is a little rough around the edges at this stage, but wait for the chunky tannins to soften and the black plum fruits to come forward.

Ripely juicy wine, its soft tannins lifted by fresh blackberry flavors. The crisp acidity in the juice shows prominently. It has some dry structure, but this is enveloped in this berry fruit character, which suggests it will mature quickly.
