Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Earthy and blackberry aromas are complemented by flavors of chocolate, tobacco and leather. A nice balance of tannins and acidity makes for a pleasant-drinking Cab.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The old-vine name is French, as are the estate owners, and the wine itself is pretty good despite being a bit thick, chewy and aimless. The nose is full but nondescript, while apple and oak-driven flavors define the palate. The finish is textured and woody. Mouthfeel is its primary attribute while interesting or unusual tastes prove elusive.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A bit dense, with prune and mint aromas. Limited in scope and depth; what's here is deep but monotone. Flavors of boysenberry and black plum are heavy and soft, while chocolate brings up the rear. Short in structure and tannins, but dense enough to match a rich weeknight dinner.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
An odd mix of Graham cracker, blueberry jam and floral aromas yield a kitchen cleanser whole. With time things get better, yielding a big, sticky palate of blueberry, blackberry and syrupy flavors. A grapey big boy with a cloying finish. Good but not balanced quite right.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A big, young grapey mound of dark fruit is how best to describe this violet wine that's so candied and gummy it's like pressed black fruit and little more. Very dark but shows little to no character or depth.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Pungent, grassy aromas seem off center for Chardonnay, while the mouthfeel is heavy and the flavors seem derived from overripe fruit. The finish is woody and has plenty of texture, but there’s also a piercing bolt of acidity running through the middle.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This three-piece band plays with Merlot, Cabernet and Syrah, and the tune is a fruit fantasia with tons of ripe cherry and blackberry, but no base or treble monitor. It’s warm, big and juicy. Not boring, but monotone. Imported by Five Star Imports.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Soft and fruity, with a broad, grapy personality. Cherry, raspberry and hard candy in the mouth, with carob and coconut from oak later on. Not many extra gears on this one. Imported by Five Star Imports.

Château Los Boldos Carmenère - 2005

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Massively jammy and purple; a true destroyer in terms of prune and heavy blackberry character. Also medicinal and full of brown sugar and maple. Seems over the top and overextracted. Can only get better with age. Imported by Five Star Imports.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark berry, cassis and some funky olive rate highest on the nose. The palate is firm and ripe, with dark plum and raspberry flavors. Kind of pruny on the back end, with bitter chocolate and blunt tannins.
