A concentrated and dense wine. Intense in its wood aging, this is still a young wine. The fruit is certainly rich, with black currants dominant overlain with spice from the wood and with dark tannins.

Owned by the Despagne family, who make some of the best whites from the Entre-deux-Mers, Mont-Pérat is one of the family’s red wine estates. This is dominated by Merlot, giving great juicy fruit flavors, underpinned by some wood, and a velvet, ripe texture.

A big, hugely rich, wood-dominated wine, oozing power and ripe fruit. This is almost Chard-like in its buttery weight, but is the usual Bordeaux blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Those who like power, line up here.

An intriguing blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle, which highlights the herbaceous Sauvignon character and a more perfumed Muscadelle. The two give a fresh, citrus- and pineapple-flavored wine, lively, to be enjoyed young.

Mont-Pérat is on slopes overlooking the Garonne river, offering great exposure. Maybe that’s why this wine is so well balanced, its ripe fruits sliced open with acidity. The texture is smooth, given spice from judicious wood aging. This is a wine to drink this year.

88-90 Barrel sample. Soft, very sweet, almost Port-like in character, with gentle tannins. There is acidity, but the wine is intensely ripe.
