Fashioned in a Shiraz-like style, this Côtes du Rhône has pretty jam notes and a richly-textured palate of plum and chocolate winding down to a strawberry note on the short-to-medium finish. This is a weighty wine that will stand up to a hearty meal.

Famed for its use of all 13 Châteauneuf grape varieties, Mont-Redon is also one of the great estates of the region. This 2003 captures the essence of Châteauneuf, with its herbal and warm, southern fruits, along with a power of black fruits and dark, brooding tannins. This will age magnificently. A step behind the very good '05, this offering is a plump, medium-bodied Côtes-du-Rhône with slightly herbal berry aromas and flavors. It's nothing fancy, just an easy-drinking wine at a reasonable price.

Fruity and slightly rubbery, with a hint of resiny oak emerging upon airing. Very tasty raspberry fruit carries a firm, structured palate toward a finish that’s packed with more berry fruit and a sprinkle of vanilla. Smoky, ripe and balanced.

A step up from the solid 2004, this year’s version packs in riper Grenache flavors, ranging from cherries to peach or apricot. The texture is more supple as well, yet the wine is still fresh, picking up hints of spice on the finish.

A typical blend from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Mont-Redon’s 2007 includes 65% Grenache, supplemented by a half-dozen other varieties. Black cherry fruit is simultaneously ripe yet herbal, peppery yet touched with other spices and velvety in texture. Proprietor Jean Abeille suggests it will age for 20 years.
