91-93 Barrel sample. Flavors of acid red berries dominate the wine, leaving the tannins and structure somewhat buried. The wine is very juicy, almost too fruity.

89-91 Delicious ripe black fruits offer an immediately attractive wine. But there is more - with flavors of dark plums and super-ripe tannins this is a wine which will also develop well.

91-93 Barrel sample. A perfumed wine, all freshness and sweetness, enticing. The tannins offer the structure, but the fruit wraps around, giving final blackcurrant sorbet flavors.

This chateau deserved its promotion to Premier Grand Cru in 2006. Nicolas Thienpont has made a wonderfully firm, dense wine that piles rich fruit upon tannin upon rich fruit, while still preserving considerable elegance. The after effect is of a solid wine, powerful, long-lasting.

A lovely, fresh, juicy wine that has a delightful lilt to its fruit. Red and black berries intermingle easily with a core of firm tannins. New wood is a major part of the firm texture, but never too dominant. This is a finely structured wine, already well developed.

An impressive wine, beautifully structured, never too powerful, very elegant. If it feels a little austere at this stage, that is because the structure is dominating the fruit. Give it 5–6 years and the full splendor will be revealed.

94-96 The wine is juicy, edged with dominant tannins. It has power of course, although this is tempered with the concentrated core and the intense acidity. It's likely to be a powerful wine.

The wine has developed well, with plenty of weight, but the fruit seems a little diffuse, soft, open in character. It’s masking the tannin core, a wine that opens slowly and carefully.
