Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Strong earthen and black cherry aromas, a bit coarse and dry nose, but at the same time nicely perfumed and spicy; surprisingly thin and sour in the mouth, I would say disappointing; one dimensional, short and earthen; tastes manufactured. (14/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Sweet and spicy nose filled with aromas of chocolate, sweet spices, ripe fruit, and earthen elements, a bit coarse but appealing; big shot of black fruit flavors in the front of the mouth, but these collapse in the middle, showing a wine that is a bit dilute and thin; the fruit drops out of sight in the mouth, and the remaining carcass is a somewhat thin and austere wine with coarse tannins remaining on the palate; not a well-made wine it seems. (14.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Soft, rich and perfumed nose, lots of earthen aromas mixed with licorice and grasses, subtle and complex aromas; sweet and deep in the mouth, quite intense and filled with powerful and focused flavors; round and rich in the front of the mouth, moving to spicy and hot in the middle, but finishing with deep and rich textures; this wine was the Wine Spectator’s wine of the year and it shows, although it is hard to resolve this wine with the 1995 above. (18.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Good aromatic nose with perfumed fruit and earthen aromas, spices and black pepper, touch of cassis and cherry; sweet fruit in the front of the mouth, cherries and black fruit; earthen and a bit dry, light and without much complexity, but a pleasant enough wine. (16/20)
