92-94 Barrel sample. A beautiful, ripe wine, closed, but with swathes of fruit, tannins and intense acidity. Finally comes freshness, a lively aftertaste.

The first vintage by Christian Moueix from a parcel of vines right in the heart of Pomerol. It is ripe and soft, perhaps too soft. The stone fruit, herbs and full bodied character all are well integrated. But for a wine of this potential, more structure is needed.

Christian Moueix’s new property is already showing its potential. In the second vintage under his control, it is producing a huge, dense wine, with black cherry juice, blackberry and bitter cocoa flavors. The wine’s structure is firm and solid, but with the potential over the next 4–5 years of revealing a more generous side.

A rounded, concentrated wine, rich and initially soft. Chocolate and ripe plum flavors give a superripe and spicy wine. As with many of the Pomerols in 2008, acidity comes riding in to redress the balance

91—93 Barrel sample A new acquisition by Christian Moeuix of Pétrus, nearly 10 acres close to the church in the heart of Pomerol. It is a soft wine, more about ripe, rich Merlot, very generous, the black fruit a burst of liveliness.
