A lean and clean specimen with basic but familiar raspberry and cherry aromas. The palate is a little thin and acidic, but with that comes freshness. Flavors of cherry and mixed herbs are good but sharp, while a light dusting of pepper covers the lean, snappy finish.

More clean and relaxed than Chalten’s 2006 Gran Reserva, this reserve-level Malbec shows generous red-fruit aromas in front of standard but totally pleasant blackberry, spice and chocolate flavors. Nicely balanced, with firm acidity, mellow but present tannins, and a medium-long, slightly oaky finish. Classic Argentine Malbec from Neuquén in Patagonia.

Plenty of charcoal, toast and resin work the bouquet, while the fruit seems a little candied. There’s a mix of black berry notes and oak, which results in a creamy mouthfeel and lingering vanilla and sweetness. A complete Malbec, but one that’s neither unique nor overly special.

Opens with aromas of tomato leaf, fresh salsa and rubber. Later on red fruit enters the picture, and on the palate there’s adequate raspberry and plum with a hint of chocolate. Feelwise, it’s a touch gummy. But overall this wine from Patagonia is solid and proves that Argentinean Pinot Noir has its merits.

Reserva. Light and not crisp. Best not too cold, seems to lose its flavor.
