Perhaps my personal favorite at the Fourth Annual Bordeaux versus Burgundy dinner, this bottle came from Jim Marlas’ cellar; a wonderful sweet and rich nose framed by subtle floral scents, the dominant impression is of rose petals, very aromatic but focused with wonderful hints of fresh-cut wood and moss; sweet and rich in the mouth with focused flavors; typical of great Burgundy, soft and seductive but with a grip that keeps your attention; nicely complemented with soft lemony acidity; long finish, fresh and focused, this is why one seeks out Burgundies. Light and elegant nose, refined, smooth aromas that carry lots of complex aromas, sweet fruit mixing with interesting notes of lanolin and dust, smoke, lots of profound fruit; smooth and silky in the mouth, light but elegant; touches of wet earth and leaves; there does seem to be some loss of fruit in this wine now; finish is a bit dry and hot, but the elements are still all there. At first a light nose and seemingly very understated, showing mostly earth and lots of black pepper, but with more time in the glass, the aromas of ripe, sweet black cherries mixed with floral scents emerged and the nose took on an exotic nature that like Scheherezade, enticed one to follow; sweet and ripe in the mouth with wonderful softness and completeness of flavor; lots of black cherry flavors; at the same time there is wonderful acidic balance that adds freshness; sweet at the core with earthen and truffle-laced flavors; smooth and silky finish; a very complete Burgundy. Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
A much lighter nose than some of the other wines from this tasting, aromas of red fruit, lanolin, black pepper and hints of tea; ripe fruit but flabby, not refined; quite dry in the mouth with a citrus fruit edge that does not marry as well as it should with the body of the wine; somewhat thin and uninteresting. Sweet, light earthen nose, powdered sugar, touch of barnyard aromas; sweet and light in the mouth, sour cherry flavors; smooth, elegant with nicely balanced flavors; smooth but a bit restrained and without a great deal of complexity. (16.5/20)

Opens with a smoky and gamey nose, earthen, but then flowers with a wonderfully perfumed presentation that conjures up the sitting room of an old New Orleans bordello; very sweet fruit in the mouth, black and red cherries; very focused with laser-sharp definition; smooth, silky and spicy all at the same time; plenty of ripe fruit, mostly black plums, but also other fruits; beautifully balanced with integrated tannins; this is why this property can be viewed as a candidate for Grand Cru status. Big nose with lots of black pepper on the surface, mixed in complex layers with aromas of paraffin and smoke, wonderful fresh-mown grass aromas and green herbs; very sweet in the mouth; flavors of hard fruit candy; raspberry flavors; but also quite wooden in the mouth with a touch of cedar, and dry, dusty flavors at the end. Probably as good as the village wines will get; very sweet and sophisticated nose with layers of aromas ranging from herbal and medicinal to the sweetness of powdered sugar, perfumed and complex with secondary aromas of iodine, green herbs, earth; smooth and silky with wonderful red fruits in the mouth; mostly cherries; clean and fresh; very balanced and surprisingly sophisticated; this is a mellow wine with endearing flavors and soft textures. Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Sweet and earthen aromas, touch of fish oil, barnyardy with mineral notes, shale, smoke, perfumed and floral; sweet ripe black cherries on the entry to the palate, but seems to lack a backbone, almost flabby in the mouth; spicy but uncoordinated; the elements of this wine have not knit and the finish is particularly fragmented with the acidity and other elements in the wine not coming together; harsh as a consequence with hard flavors at the finish. Sweet and ripe, very perfumed nose, tar, tobacco leaves, cedar, green herbs and lots of ripe fruit that includes aromas of black cherry and cranberry mixed with earth and wood; sweet ripe fruit in the mouth; layers of cherry and black currant; well balanced; long finish that maintains focus around a nice mix of citrus fruit and earth mixed with ripe cherries. (17/20)
