What a pretty wine. Made for drinking soon, it shows impeccable balance in the finely ground tannins, moderate alcohol and deft touch of oak. Feels soft and complex in the mouth, carrying flavors of berries, herbs, mocha and sandalwood. Easy to find, with 16,056 cases produced.

Crisp and refreshing, this Sauvignon Blanc has ripe flavors of lemons, limes and pineapples, with flowery notes of jasmine and honeysuckle. It finishes slightly sweet.

With rare exceptions, Charles Krug has been turning out some of the most drinkable Cabernets in Napa Valley without gouging customers on price. This ’06, from their vineyard in Yountville, is a lovely wine. Bone dry and beautifully structured, it shows classic flavors of black currants, cedar and spices. Now–2012.

Round with a full, figgy nose and a harmonious blend of grapefruit, melon, and pear flavors. This medium-weight wine is perked up by a mineral note and spicy tang on the finish.

This attractive Cal-Ital hangs leather and cedar accents on the the tart cherry fruit. Medium-weight, with good texture on the palate, it closes with a softly dry, long finish. The grapes for this wine come from 10 acres right at the winery.

This is a really nice dinner wine, posh and elegant, yet with richly ripe flavors. Fully dry, with a complex balance of herbs and fruits, and wonderfully rich tannins. Obviously built for the table, a wine that won’t distract from your favorite dishes.

There are so many good qualities to this wine that I wish it were more concentrated. With a very high production, the vines must have been stretched. Too bad, because it shows gorgeous structure of acids and tannins, the kind of Cabernet only Napa Valley can produce. Still, it rewards for elegance and modest blackberry and oak flavors.

Tight, with citrus, apple and pear flavors and high acidity. It’s a bracing wine that stimulates the taste buds. Winemaker effects include plenty of sweet oak, but it’s still lean and angular.

Very dark in the glass and intense in the nose, with cassis, blackberry, mint, white chocolate, smoke and plum aromas. The flavors are extravagantly fruity, very forward and ripe, but dry and framed in soft, intricate tannins. This wine, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, is weighty and very charming.
