Salty, even briny scents dominate, along with a slightly resinous character. In the mouth this is a flavorful, rather heavy wine which carries its weight and power in the dead center of the palate. Nothing elegant here, but it’s a good mouthful of fruit, finishing with an herbal-metallic note.

The nose is simple but has its own charm, with juicy lemon-lime fruit underscored by florest floor aromas. Light-bodied and quite crisp, this is a good choice for clams at the raw bar.

Heavy-handed Champagne, and rather overblown. The fruit has flavors of ripe apples, with strong hints of sweetness from the dosage.

A simple, fresh style of wine, with attractive white currant flavors and good acidity. This Charles Lafitte brand describes itself as the successor to the George Goulet label, whose wines are now made elsewhere. Imported by Vranken America.

Light and coppery, this easy-sipping rosé offers clean, simple flavors of cherry and berry candy. The fine bubbles give the mouthfeel a welcome elegance. The fruit flavors are also pretty, but diffuse. It falls off quickly on the finish, leaving just the slightest impression of brine.

Light but very fresh, boasting scents of lemons and limes alongside ginger and fresh herbs. Tart and very dry-tasting on the finish; try with oysters on the half shell.

A fresh, lively Champagne, quite soft with crisp white pears and a light sweetness which integrates well with the fruit. Young, without complexity, a good apéritif Champagne.

Meaty and muscular, with a beefy heft that can’t be denied. Fortunately, some peach and berry character affords it the fruit it needs. Flavors of spiced peaches, licorice and grapefruit carry the palate, while it finishes smoky and mildly fruity. With pop and power, this one doesn’t tread lightly.

If this is the current release, it is showing its age. The color is noticeably tilted to the gold side; and a sweaty, musty scent overrides the oxidized Sherry-cask character. Tangy, even salty in the mouth, with some bitterness in the finish.

A full, somewhat sweet wine, fresh with foamy strawberries in the mouth. The acidity is missing somewhere, but this does make for a pleasing wine, certainly a fine partner to fresh fruits.
