Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Wonderful nose of sweet lemons and limes, candied fruit and citrus blossoms, lemon peel, minerals, sweet herbs, exotic and enticing; sweet and very ripe in the mouth, the wine has sweetness and fruit to spare; a touch candied, but saved by the emergence of lemon juice to provide focus and concentrate the flavors; light at the finish, but quite elegant. (18/20)

Opens with smoky, minerally aromas, slightly floral and perfumed, sweet honeyed fruit, lemony with hints of lemon peel, still quite closed; good flavors if not yet fully evolved, but showing sweet honeyed fruit mixed nicely with lemon and citrus notes; focused and smooth in the mouth with a clean definition of what it is trying to be; powerful acidity is still in the integration stages; long finish with smooth textures; a bit more time will reveal additional depth and complexity. (17/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Sweet nose with plenty of sweet fruit aromas, hints of honey and apples, minerals with a layer of lemon peel; sweet in the mouth with plenty of fruit; citrus fruits predominate, but there is enough stuffing to keep the wine from becoming too dry; the finish does begin to thin out, though, and the dry acidity shows its dominance at the end. (15.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Sweet honeyed aromas that signal ripe fruit with touches of herbs and spices, floral and exotic, cookie dough, gingerbread; light textured wine with plenty of sweetness on the palate; lemony, but also very peppery and almost hot; good solid acidity in the mid-mouth and at the finish; lots of spice, but lighter than I might want. (16.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Sweet nose, loaded with ripe fruit, candied lemons, touch of minerals, earth; sweet and smooth in the mouth, lots of ripe fruit; silky and elegant, but lacks concentration and grip; a pleasant wine but not at the low end of the premier cru ladder in my mind. (16/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Very good nose, sweet and lemony with lots of green herbs and spicy fruit, lightly floral, hints of caramel and anise; sweet and lush on the entry with candied lemons and white fruits; very fresh and lively and a treat for the palate; loses a little of its energy in the mouth, showing signs of weakness in the back of the mouth with a thinner and more citric finish; still good though overall. (16.5/20)

Nicely composed nose of sweet fruit and citrus tones, touch of honey, ripeness, mineral notes, earth, dry aromas; sweet and smooth in the mouth, lots of full-flavored citrus fruit, clean and fresh with very good balance; light textures, but clean and focused; nice finish with plenty of fresh citrus to maintain interest. (17/20)

This is a wonderful wine, superb nose with power and expression to spare, layered and complex producing a myriad of aromas that waft out of the glass in waves; very aromatic with lemon and minerals, smoky, touch of sweetness, spices, hard to put into words; sweet and lemony in the mouth with superb balance; touches of spice and herbs; deep and complex; expressive; this is a complete wine and one of the best that I have tasted from this vintage; has the power and depth of a grand cru. (19/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
The opening wine of the annual three-day celebration of the Society of Baccchus, opens with a soft and appealing nose, showing elements of peat, smoke, green herbs, grasses, and minerals; not a powerful wine, but with nice sweet fruit and lots of mineral notes; in this format very fresh; dry textures; a bit simple but with a nice finish. (17/20) Tasted again from regular bottles at the Chevaliers du Tastevin dinner later in the year with fairly consistent notes, but I did note that the wine seemed thin and two-dimensional and not particularly impressive; would garner a lower score than the magnums by at least a point.

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Clean and fresh nose of fresh fruit and sweet lemons, floral, touch of clover, herbs, bitter lemons; fresh and quite focused in the mouth; first taste is sweet with what borders on thick textures; becoming more balanced and smoother in the mouth as the wine opens to the palate; lots of sweet lemons and lemon peel, slight hint of grasses and licorice; nice smooth finish with a polished presentation; quite good now but needs more time. (17/20) Another opportunity to taste this wine from a magnum was different with stronger aromas and with gamey overtones, touch of bacon fat; richer and plumper in the mouth, but otherwise consistent.
