To prove that white Bordeaux can age as well as white Burgundy, here comes André Lurton with his wood-aged Château Bonnet. It’s a finely made wine, with well-judged wood and ripe, but crisp fruit. It’s certainly young at the moment and will repay aging for five years.

A soft wine, with ripe fruit and sweet wood aromas. The fruit is ripe, with a rich, juicy character and sweet fruit flavors. This is a wine that’s already ready to drink.

There are aromas of ripe, juicy fruit. To taste, the wine is soft, juicy, and easy, perhaps slightly dilute. A very approachable wine, but in the end lightweight.

One of the most familiar Entre-deux-Mers chateaus, and certainly the largest, this is the home of master vigneron André Lurton. With its fresh, grapefruit flavors and aromas of white flowers and hedgerows, this is a great summer wine.

The vast 300-acre estate of Château Bonnet in the heart of the Entre-deux-Mers produces a deliciously reliable, good value wine every year. This brand-new 2008 shows some lively yellow fruits as well as a strong citrus element. It has vibrantly fresh, pure fruit and is ready to drink now, but can age for a year. Screwcap.

Why does nobody think about dry white Bordeaux? Blended from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, it is a delicious white wine bargain. And Château Bonnet is one of the best examples. Made in the Entre-deux-Mers region by André Lurton, whose family seems to own or manage half of Bordeaux, it is full of flavors of orange and apricot with a touch of grapefruit to provide the freshness. There is a light toast character to round it off.
