This mature Right Bank St. Emilion "satellite" wine has a pretty pale-medium ruby core with brick-orange rim; on the nose it's showing its age nicely, with a macadamia-meets-hazelnut essence, a brulee note (like creme brulee without the sweetness), then toffee & tobacco smoke; next, herbs and greeness, like I'm smelling a salad; sweet baking spice, like cardamom; hint of mint. The palate shows oak, somewhat obvious but not unpleasant, then moderate acid and moderate tannin; the flavors are of glazed plums, toffee without excessive sweetness, some cherry. Although not nearly as complex as the nose, the palate is delicously smooth and the finish concludes with a hazelnut/smoke essence without excessive alcohol that's just...classy. Sort of makes me think of a speakeasy wine. To be enjoyed with cigars and illicit activities.
